Camera Work Reflection

Learning camera movements was a interesting process for me as someone who loves watching movies. I felt that it made me appreciate directors and cinematographers vision and purpose on why they might use a certain choice in the camera's movement or none at all. Learning the several camera movements was fairly easy to me because I consider my learning style visual and with the article, video, written notes, and "scavenger hunt" which we did in class I absorbed it quickly. In my project involving camera movement I collaborated with three others and our assignment was to create a short video using the camera movements static, pan, tilt, a push in or pull out, tracking, and one of our choice. Additionally us completing a storyboard before hand to map our idea's out.

This was our storyboard:

This project took us two days to complete and was easy for my teammates and I. The only challenges our group had difficulty with was brainstorming a video idea, and what movements we wanted to use in what order. The project was a success and it helped to learn the new material by using the movements by physically implementing it.

                                      Final Project:

While learning camera shots, it was easier to absorb after already learning some camera techniques. Camera shots do not move the camera and in my mind I categorized them similar to pictures. While writing notes we cut and pasted example images in our notes as references and it helped me and my classmates retain the information better so we could look back to it. For my project my class worked in groups of two or three and the objective was to tell a story using inanimate objects and camera shots. I worked as an pair and we chose the storyline of a plastic water bottle being "jealous" of a reusable water bottle and making a plan of revenge to be the one that is popular instead.

Here is our story board:

While working on the project it took some time for me and my partner to come up with an idea and to brainstorm what camera shots to use in which sequence. Our story got approved by Ms. Acosta, and the next class we worked on our camera shots. Again, working on a project really helped me and I'm sure others to understand what it must be like behind a camera. Helping to learn by working on what each shot really entails by practice led to success.

Final Result:
